A quick question about Rubies. What are they and how do they work?

I apologise in advance if this question is answered elsewhere and I just haven't looked in the right place.

Rubies are our currency. With each post you receive rubies. You can donate to, or receive from, friends. You are also able to purchase from various shops in the marketplace or on your respective sides. To access the spending function just click on the link next to rubies and input the name of the person and the amount (without commas or periods, e.g. 2500). Hope this helped.
