Default PC or Mac?

So I'm going to have to buy a new computer soon (my poor old laptop is about to go), really not sure to go with PC or Mac. There are pros and cons to both I know, but any thoughts or opinions that will sway me either way? Who has what?

Heeeellllpppp

PC is a little more versatile though less secure - macs are faster and overall more reliable, though from my experience I would always choose PC over the two - just for it's versatility and it's wide support range. Thats just my preference though

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the PC. Besides the pricing is much better than Macs, especially since I'm not going to be doing anything special with the computer...

Unless you have specialist software (like photoshop for graphics or Protools for sound recording) then macs aren't a viable choice for those on a budget. The expense to use ratio just doesn't add up. With that extra info I would definately recommend PC - and as a software support engineer they are much easier to support lol.

Photoshop runs on pc just fine I might add..

I would go with a PC. There is no way I would spend more money on a mac that it would require.

You get more for your money when you buy a PC. Now here in the US.. there are certain brands that are good and bad. I would stay away from HP.. Go with Toshiba and Sony. That was told to me by many techs. Dell is hell...

Acer is a reliable make too - all of our company machines are acer and samsung, tower units acer and HP. The HP machines aren't too bad but the acer ones are always better. Indeed, dell is hell!

And yes becky, I know photoshop works great on PC as I have (attempt to) use it myself, though one of my best friends did a degree in advertising design and found macs to be more streamlined and better with photoshop in general, and she used both for different projects. I was speaking from her experience with that. The protools was from when I was doing my degree in popular music and recording and Protools was used for a lot of studio production and that was on macs as well

Mac Pros -

better for graphics design work **
to some people a more aestetically pleasing design / color
trendy
increased cross platform support with windows and other software
easy integration if you are an iphone / ipad / itunes type of person.

Mac Cons -

Higher price usually for a lower spec of equipment vs PC
Not as upgradable as a PC
still not as wide a variety of compatible software as there is for windows

** In my experience working with entry level 3D programs there is actually not as much support for Mac OS. Some of the plug ins I use for my 3d rendering are not Mac compatible, or Mac version updates are slower to release. However I understand that professionals do work with Macs.

Hmm thanks guys

Lots to think about, and hopefully a decision will be made asap. I need a computer that doesn't randomly freeze or restart!
