    Default RPG Guide

Role Playing is a lot of fun and there are a few rules one must know to role play. The guide here will introduce you to the format one would use to role play on a message board.

First, There is out of character. Out of Character, or OOC, is what people use to communicate with each other outside of the characters. This is to be done in a polite manner, and not to bring your character inside the OOC. OOC is only used when there is an ER and should be kept to a min. Teachers, leaders, or/and guides might use OOC to help you with your role playing skills.

Second, there is back in character or BIC. This is used to get back into character. This is mainly used right after an OOC.

Third, Actions are done like this.

:: Aine walks in the room.::

The :: can also be <,>,*. Those are the most common symbols used but others do use other symbols. The main thing is to keep it consistant throughout the whole thread.

    Thoughts are expressed in italics

    :: Aine thought to herself.::

    What a wonderful day

Speaking is usually done with quotation marks. If there is more than one person in the room, then the name is usually put in () before the remark.

:: Aine looked around and spoke to Mark.::

(Mark)"Don't you think it is a wonderful day?"

A post is usually spaced out and not cluttered together to make it for easy reading. So, putting them all together. A post looks like this:

OOC: My name is going to be Aine for this.

    BIC:

    Aine

:: Aine walks into the room and looks around. Seeing yellow walls and green furniture in the room, Aine immediately thought of a garden. The room was very cheerful and Aine couldn't help but feel happy. Spotting Mark next to the door, Aine walked up to him. Greeting him, she smiled.::

(Mark)"Hello Mark, isn't it such a wonderful day?"

:: Aine didn't wait for Mark to respond. Continuing to talk to him, she just started to ramble on.::

(Mark)" I really thought this was a good place to meet. The room color is so cheerful that it makes me happy everytime I walk into it.::

Interesting that he isn't talking back

:: Aine thought to herself as she waited for him to respond.::

    Default Joint Posting

This is to alert you of something that you may see in some RP threads.

Joint Posting is a series of posts by different people, but in one post. Sometimes it's done to not spam up a thread... most of the time, it's done via IM on MSN, Yahoo! or AIM Messenger.

When joint posting occurs, characters played by different people are posted in the same post by one of their respective players. The IM screen names are taken out, and character names are bolded to indicate the transition between each.

Usually, when a joint post occurs, the poster should be kind enough to alert the readers with a "Joint Post" title somewhere before the actual post.

Most often, joint posts revolve around 2 characters in the same setting. When those characters switch to two new characters, a new joint post should be started.

If at all possible, it's encouraged that you give joint posting a try- if the current situation of your character(s) allows it. It's a lot of fun, and it's very efficient when it comes to getting things done in a storyline.
